2009 Manitoba Sandhills Orienteering Festival

Relay

Relay Format

The relay will consist of 3-person teams.  There will be three classes of teams based on the age and gender of teammates:  0-2 points, 3-5 points, and 6-9 points.

Runners score points as follows:

Age (on Dec. 31, 2009) Male Female
0-14 2 points 3 points
15-19 1 point 2 points
20-39 0 point 1 point
40-59 1 point 2 points
60+ 2 points 3 points

The courses for 0-2 and 3-5 points teams will be as follows:

Leg 1:  Intermediate to advanced, similar to course 3, 4, or 5 at a long distance event.
Leg 2:  Beginner, similar to course 2 at a long distance event.
Leg 3:  Advanced, similar to course 7 at a long distance event.

The courses for 6-9 point teams will be slightly shorter.

The approximate winning times will be 80 minutes for 0-2 point teams and 90 minutes for 3-5 and 6-9 point teams.

Forking will be used.

Additional information will be posted here as it becomes available.

Team Formation

Any 3 registered competitors can form a team.  The team names and members can be entered when registering for the Sandhills Festival.  If this information is not included with the registration, then it must be submitted on or before 14th August to oevents@orienteering.mb.ca.

Awards

Prizes will be given to the top three teams in each class.

Directions to Parking

Directions to the Relay at Yellow Quill in Spruce Woods Park at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 27

From Carberry:

      Travel south on Highway 5 for about 17 km and watch for orienteering signs to turn left into Yellow Quill.

From Winnipeg:

      Take Highway 1 (Trans Canada) to Highway 5, approximately 2 hours

      Turn left at Highway 5.

      Follow Highway 5 for about 21 km and watch for orienteering signs to turn left into Yellow Quill.

From Brandon:

      Take Highway 1 (Trans Canada) to Highway 5, approximately 40 minutes

      Turn right at Highway 5.

      Follow Highway 5 for about 21 km and watch for orienteering signs to turn left into Yellow Quill.
